Verruca Treatments
What are Verruca?

A Verruca is virus that is transmitted on to the sole of the foot from someone else with the infection.  Whilst they are not normally dangerous or sinister they can cause pain and discomfort.   If this is the case then treatment to remove them may be indicated.

What treatments are on offer?

At Runcorn Podiatry we off a choice of treatments depending on how long the verruca has been there.  Each treatment uses different methods, however each treatment is designed to kill the verruca virus.

Debridement of the verruca
If the verruca is small, new or minimally painful,  debridement of the tissue may be a good option. This can cause the bodies immune response to fight off the virus, especially if used in conjunction with over the counter treatments.

Verrutop
Verrutop is a topical application of a Zinc/Nitric Acid which dessicates the verruca and removes it painlessly.   It can be used for children over the age of 6 and adults.  The applications are every 10-14 days,  and each day surgical spirit is applied to help keep the active ingredients active.   2-6 treatments are normally needed.

Freezing/Cryotherapy
Freezing of the Verruca is a well established and reliable treatment.  The aim to freeze the verruca tissue so that the virus is killed and then the body can then heal the area.  After the first freeze you may get a blister, which can simply be dressed,  and a review appointment will be made after 4-6 weeks.

Verruca Needling
Verruca needling is a very effective treatment for long standing verrucas and warts.  Performed under local anaesthetic the Verruca is stabbed multiple times to stimulate the bodys own immune response to fight off the virus.  After the procedure a review is needed a few days later and then 8 weeks later.
